    Jordan – Amman

His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Open University, announced the opening of the University in the Kingdom of Morocco, making it the tenth campus within its educational system spanning the Arab world, including its campus in Jordan. This announcement was made during the 45th meeting of the University's Board of Trustees, held via video conference with the participation of the esteemed members of the Board.

His Highness expressed his highest appreciation and gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco and his government for the support and empowerment the University has received since the inception of the idea of establishing the University in Morocco, up until the completion of the campus's readiness to receive its first cohort of students at the beginning of the 2026–2027 academic year. He affirmed that relevant government authorities and private sector institutions in Morocco, led by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, have provided comprehensive support and facilitation that contributed to the realization of this ambitious Arab educational project.

    His Highness stated:

“The inauguration of the tenth campus marks a new milestone in the journey of promoting open and quality higher education across the Arab world, embodying the vision of the University's founder, His Royal Highness Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz – may he rest in peace – who initiated this project in 1996, believing that education is a right for all, and that access to quality university education should not be limited to a specific group, but available to all segments of Arab society, particularly those most in need. We thank Almighty God for enabling us to continue this mission and to achieve a significant part of what His Highness aspired to."

He further added that the Kingdom of Morocco's accession to the University system reflects its distinguished scientific and cultural standing, and strengthens its presence in North Africa, contributing to expanding flexible higher education opportunities and providing modern academic programs that respond to the needs of development and the labor market in the Arab region. He emphasized that the selection of Morocco also reflects its historical role in embracing knowledge, being one of the first Arab and Islamic countries to establish higher education institutions, including Al-Qarawiyyin University in Fez, one of the oldest universities in the world—thus bringing together Morocco's rich scholarly heritage with the University's mission of providing quality education for present and future generations.

His Highness concluded by extending his gratitude and appreciation to the members of the Board of Trustees for their continuous efforts and valuable contributions in supporting the University's mission and enabling it to fulfill its educational and developmental role over the past twenty-four years.

For his part, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Zakri, President of the University in the Arab world, stated that the inauguration of the University in Morocco reflects its commitment to the developmental mission established by its founder – may he rest in peace – which aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for the labor market through high-quality academic programs that meet labor market demands and contribute to development.

Dr. Al-Zakri added that the campus in Morocco will be open to all, offering tuition fees affordable to various segments of society. He expressed hope that it will become, God willing, an educational hub serving learners in the Sahel region of Africa, benefiting from Morocco's strategic location and its cultural and scientific influence across the African continent.

He also called on students in Morocco to seize this opportunity and join the University, which was established for them and whose accredited academic programs were designed in partnership with one of the oldest and most prestigious open universities in the world, to provide them with the education they deserve, and to become part of a university community that currently includes more than 90,000 students and over 400,000 alumni since its launch in 2002, many of whom have earned recognition from employers locally and internationally.

It is noted that the Arab Open University continues its academic presence in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan through its Amman campus, which is considered one of its main campuses in the region. It offers accredited academic programs that contribute to expanding access to higher education for students in Jordan, in line with its mission to support open education and broaden learning opportunities across the Arab world.
