In a stimulating and intellectually charged debate titled "Education Should Focus on Math and Science Rather than Music and Art", an activity under the Speaking Centre umbrella, students from Jordan and Kuwait branches of Arab Open University engaged in a vigorous exchange of ideas. The event was expertly chaired by Professor Azis Thabit, Dean of the Faculty of English Studies. Organizational credits go to Mr. Mohammad Farran, a tutor from the Kuwait branch, who not only prepared the Kuwait team but also played a pivotal role in the debate's logistics.
Both Jordan team, under the guidance of Mr Odai Al-Maaitah, a tutor from the same branch, and Kwauit team, under the leadership of Mr. Mohammad Farran from the Kwauit branch presented compelling arguments, showcasing their preparation and depth of understanding. This intellectual battle was not just a testament to the students' hard work but also to the dedication of their mentors.
The debate was adjudicated by a panel of esteemed academics: Prof. Ghada Abdulhafeez from the Bahrain branch, Dr. Dalia Sa'ad from the Egypt branch, and Dr. Sameh A. Galil from the KSA branch. Their expertise added significant gravitas to the event. Dr Ola kittaneh and Dr. Marine Milad, Chairs of English Departments in Jordan and Kuwait were present.
The discussions were not only fruitful but also exciting, highlighting the importance of diverse educational disciplines. In a close and keenly contested debate, Jordan branch emerged victorious, securing two out of three votes against the Kuwait branch. This victory underscores the high level of debate and discourse prevalent within Arab Open University's branches, reflecting the institution's commitment to fostering critical thinking and holistic education.
