Opening of a Capacity-Building Workshop for Media Students on Specialized Health Journalism
A training workshop titled “Building the Capacities of Media Faculty Students in Specialized Health Journalism” was launched today at Al Abdali Hotel in Amman. The workshop, organized by the Royal Health Awareness Society in collaboration with Radio Netherlands Worldwide (RNW), aims to strengthen the capabilities of future journalists in covering health-related issues, with a particular focus on media programs addressing sexual and reproductive health.
Dr. Faisal Al-Sarhan, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Media, attended the opening of the workshop and participated in some of the lectures delivered to the 20 students from the faculty who are taking part in this three-day program.
The students will receive intensive training delivered by experts in media, public health, and human rights.
The organizers of the workshop emphasized the vital role of media in disseminating accurate, evidence-based health information—particularly in raising awareness about sexual and reproductive health, which remains a sensitive topic in some communities.
Dr. Manal Tahtamouni, one of the lecturers, noted that the workshop aims to empower journalists to break societal barriers surrounding these issues by producing awareness-oriented media content that respects cultural sensitivities while promoting individuals' health rights.
