Due to the great and accelerating development in the fields of technology and communications worldwide, and as most - if not all businesses - (industries) nowadays rely heavily on employing this technology to facilitate, accelerate and expand their work ranges, the Information Technology Department has become one of the most important departments That involved in the formation of any modern institution these days.
Whereas the Arab Open University is concerned with open education, in which a large part of it has become administered using modern technologies, the Information Technology Department came to be the main engine of this process so that the department at the university manages all technical, electronic and computer operations, and it is directly related to the academic and administrative departments of the university. All, this is in addition to other support operations, of which a large part is hidden, in order to ensure the continuity of work without interruption in the educational process.
The philosophy of the University's Computer Center is based on providing electronic and computer services as quickly and efficiently as possible so that the teaching process is facilitated and computerized to reflect the positive impact of using technology on the student and the teacher, and the various university departments as well, which play a supportive role for the educational process as a whole.
The center includes a number of internal units, so that each unit is concerned with specific tasks to ensure efficiency in completing various tasks, and these units are:
1. Technical Support Unit.
2. Systems, Networks and Protection Unit.
3. Computer laboratories at the university.
4. Local branch programs development.
The department carries out a large number of tasks that directly affect the work of the university, whether in academic educational processes, administrative operations or support operations at the university, and among the most important of these tasks are the following:
1. Providing technical support services to employees and students alike.
2. Operating and maintaining the main servers and university data storage units and updating and developing them continuously.
3. Operating and maintaining the various university systems and their respective websites, following them up and updating them continuously.
